The North Port Series 300 Scavenger Valve Solution
The North Port Series 300 Scavenger Valve (SER300) is a type of Knife Gate Valve used in recycle mill heavy trash applications to process abrasive materials. These valves are also used in mining and ore processing and pulp production. Scavenger valves are applicable for processing liquids and materials containing abrasive pieces – nails, staples, glass, sand, plastic, and more – that require a rugged valve to handle the heavy solids and trash in the material without causing wear.
Trying to close a valve that is not made for this type of aggressive processing will not work effectively. The valve might not close, and the material might get squeezed in between the components, damaging the blade. NPV’s unique cavity-free design prevents solids from accumulating and ensures proper cycling of the valve. This type of design eliminates problems caused by an accumulation of solids that can prevent proper cycling.
As a result, NPV scavenger valves have a much longer service life. They can also be renewed several times and serviced, repaired, or replaced by Armour Valve. How Do North Port Scavenger Valves Work?
The North Port Series 300 Scavenger Valve features a hardened gate, hardened seat cartridge, and hardened backup guide that help to prolong the life of the valves in heavy solid and trash applications.
The gate rides on a hardened guide ring, not the body which further helps to extend the product’s life. The gates are chrome plated to reduce friction on packing, reduce valve torque, and extend packing life. A hardened serrated seat ring and hardened beveled gate allow the valve to shear heavy solids and still achieve effective metal-to-metal sealing. A hardened seat ring and hardened gate guide also serve as scrapers to prevent solids from being dragged into the packing area when the valve is cycled. These are metal-to-metal seated valves, unlike many other solutions that feature metal-to-soft seated valves. These other solutions utilize the soft seat to ensure tightness, but the gap that this seating creates can quickly lead to blade damage.

The two-piece body design and use of replaceable wear components allow scavenger valves to be fully repaired by the factory to a ‘like-new’ condition, making them very cost-effective. The cost of repairing these valves is around 50-60% of the current list price of the valve.
