Our History

Armour Valve has served customers in energy and industry with high performance speciality valves and process solutions for critical and severe service for 50+ years. Below is a look at our journey since our inception.

1971

Two brothers launch a partnership called “Bro-Tek, Inc” in Montreal to distribute standard steel gate, globe and check valves with pressures up to 900 ANSI in Quebec. Ian Braff later joins the company as a partner.

Mid-1970s

Ian and Sally Braff acquire the business and rebrand it Armour Valve, Ltd with its iconic Armadillo logo.

Late 1970s

The company expands to the Atlantic provinces.

Early 1980s

The Braffs relocate the head office to Toronto and hire their first employee, Marinette Padua, who has been a key member of our Operations Team ever since.

Mid 1980s

The company expands West to Alberta at a time when the price of WTI oil was $26.92/barrel. Within a year it plummets to $14.44.

1997

On Dec 1, 1997, Armour Valve receives its first ISO quality certification (ISO 9002:1994). We have been continuously certified since and are now certified to ISO 9001:2015.

2007

An end-to-end enterprise software solution is implemented to better manage our business activities and support our customers and suppliers with real-time information.

2010s

Our team grows to 30 people across Canada and forms a Joint Health & Safety Committee to develop our comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Plans and Safe Work Practices. We also launch our internship program, creating opportunities for students to gain paid work experience.

2019

Elizabeth McBeth becomes President of Armour Valve with a determination to preserve the best from the past while positioning Armour Valve for success and growth in the future.

Armour invests in intrapreneurship, encouraging and supporting 4 individuals and 2 mentors to collaborate on developing concepts to expand our business and pitching them to senior management.

Proudly family owned, Armour Valve celebrates 50 years in business and unveils a refreshed Armadillo logo to kick off a new semi-centennial in the making.

With support from the United Way B.C. Social Purpose Institute, Armour Valve defines our business purpose: “We exist to transform infrastructure for a healthy, thriving planet”. We join the Canada Net Zero Challenge and take the Family Business Sustainability Pledge.

Our head office relocates to a new fully LED lit and squeaky clean 12.5k square foot facility to meet the growing needs of valued customers and to enhance operational efficiency.
