Issue & Importance
The engineering team at a major fertilizer plant was at a crossroads. A process section of their plant had several aging globe and check valves that were failing. What should have been an easy replacement, turned into a search for a new solution. The engineer at the fertilizer plant consulted with the manufacturer of the valves at their plant, however, the manufacturer was unable to provide either the material to replace these valves or a valid CRN.
Looking for options, they reached out to Armour Valve for an alternative to the check valves installed on their ammonia and urea lines. Our in-house engineer mentioned to them that our supplier Conval was able to produce a T pattern check valve with CRN and in the material they required. Fitting their timeline and requirements, they opted to proceed with our proposed Conval globe and check valve solution for their process application.
Conval Clampseal® Check Valve
Solution
The Conval Clampseal® product line from Conval is certified with CRN and is suitable for applications involving ammonium carbamate, nitric acid, ammonia, and other urea process fluids. They are also available in various body sizes and configurations (Angle, T, and Y). Thanks to its innovative design, operators can streamline in-line servicing, courtesy of the pressure seal bonnet that eliminates the need for cutting welds or replacing gaskets.
Incorporated are also features for self-draining waterways and the elimination of collection points where corrosive substances like ammonium carbamate can accumulate, preventing crevice corrosion and subsequent cracking.
Conval Urea Service Valve
With its modular design as standard and featuring interchangeable parts, these valves are easily adaptable to meet the specific demands of an application. Plus, with replacement parts consistent across valve sizes, stocking requirements are minimized, ensuring easy access to necessary components when needed.
